Today was a beautiful sunny day and everyone and their brother was out walking around. This was especially exciting because it has been cold and raining all week. Maybe this is why today I got more vulgar comments/hit on/told "I love you" than any other day since I've been here. You see, Italians are very open about how they feel about you. And they are not shy to look you completely up and down and check you out while not trying to hide it AT ALL. Hints why I think I should invest in a giant bag instead of wearing clothing. I scream "American". Maddy says I need to just dye my hair... not happening. But hey! If you're blonde and need a little "pick me up", come walk around Italy and I promise someone will tell you they love you as you walk by. I love Italia.
So as I said before it's been a rainy week and therefore the roommates and I did absolutely nothing since Tuesday besides cook dinner every night and watch Glee episodes. That is the only bad thing about having to walk everywhere... you get wet. But I can live with that. Wednesday, in my painting class, I began my best painting yet! I'll post a picture when it is done, I'm very proud of it :) It's a still life of two apples and a kiwi split in half. And I made some changes to my first one with the wine glass and bottle... major improvement. Other than this, nothing huge happened, so I'll just skip up to today :)
Friday! I love Friday. It means I don't have class for 4 days and can put anything school related off for 3. In honor of wonderful Friday we made mimosas this morning. What a great start to the day. I believe every day could be started off with a mimosa, but that could get expensive. I did P90X legs again, and it only hurt half as bad this time! This means I'm improving (or so I tell myself). It must be our stairs. They'll kick anyones butt. But around noon the three of us went to Mercado Centrale, the big food market, and bought lots of chicken and veggies and bread and looked at quite a few whole animals in the meat section... apparently people like to buy animals whole... I think it's weird. You can also buy cow stomach, and most Italians do. It looks like a white furry blanket in case you were wondering. So no, I will not be buying cow stomach. I'd rather eat dirt for a week. At 2:45 I had to go to something called "Arty Friday" through my school. They take place every Friday and each time you visit a different contemporary art exhibit or artist... this is really NOT my thing at all, I'm not a huge fan of contemporary art, but these lovely Arty Fridays are freaking required for studio art students (thanks a lot painting class) so I have to go to a total of 3 this semester. One down. Two to go. Or maybe I'll only do two total and hope it doesn't impact my grade. It was really boring. Things sticking out of the wall and ground... not my kind of art. There was one that was cool though because it was somewhat of an actual painting...
It is made completely out of stamps that say "4 NOV 2010" up to November 20. It's cool because it looks like a painting from afar, but up close you can see all the thousands of little stamps. It was interesting. On my way home I rewarded myself with some Grom gelato (best gelato place around, all natural ingredients, homemade, and right around the corner, it's always packed with Italians!) Every flavor is to die for. Maybe even to kill for. America needs a Grom.
Tomorrow we go to Assisi with ISA, our study abroad program, so it's a free trip! Yaay for free! Well, it's actually not free, we pay for it in our tuition cost I guess, but as a guy in my class said, "Well, it feels free!" So here's to that! Then Sunday we go with them to Siena and San Gimignano! This will be an awesome free-ish weekend! I am soo excited! So I'll update you tomorrow night or the next. Ciao!
